I Wish My Boss Had Empathy

I “had to” quit my job in the middle of this pandemic

We all went into lockdown in 2020. My workplace became toxic because the managers weren’t yet ready to calm their egos.

My boss asked me the reason for resigning, and I told her the truth — the leadership in this workplace isn’t competent, and I mentioned a specific incident to support my statement.

There was another employee misbehaving with me openly in the official WhatsApp group. It happened twice. Prior to going WFH, I had already complained about the behavior of this employee to HR.

Apparently, there were no steps taken.

I also mentioned to my boss that I have issues of anxiety, and I have undergone therapy too. I don’t like confronting people repeatedly for the same issue.

To which she replied, “Oh oh oh, you should do yoga. You should follow XYZ on youtube for meditation. Your generation is not doing well, everyone is having a mental health issue.”

(Ok boomer?)

I didn’t expect compassion from her. But I also didn’t expect shame, pity, and unsolicited advice from someone.

I am self-employed now. If and when I hire someone to work with/for me, I know exactly what I won’t do.
